CEC/CASE Exectutive Board Meeting

The meeting was a phone confence through Skype. Participating were:
CEC: Kathy Porter, Mary Brownell, Lorrane McPherson
CASE: Lorie Gerkey, Lorrane McPherson, Diane Breuning, Wanda Williams

The meeting was called to order at 9:00 am.

2009 State Conference, March 6, 2009, Black Canyon Conference Center: "Special Education 2.0: Interacting Today":

1. Flyer: Lorrane sent a draft conference flyer today. She will finalize the flyer and get it sent out ASAP to begin the advertising.
2. Lorrane has the bio blurbs on Julie and Ed.
3. Breakouts:
1. Professional Edge: Diane Breuning
2. Denise Lowell-Britt: Arizona Law (2 breakouts after lunch). This needs to be confirmed. Who will do it?
3. Diane Breuning will talk to people at ASU to do breakouts on autism. They will be on research. Diane will get other topics through her contacts at ASU.
4. Co-Teaching: Lorie will talk to Colette at ADE to see if someone from AHAA could do a session.
5. Accommodations: Lorrane will ask Kathy Shaw if she will do this; we will offer her an honorarium of $200; Lorrane will ask her to do at least 2, possibly 3 sessions; they will be stand-alone so a participant can attend a single session or all of them.
6. RTI: Kathy will contact Vail District to see if they will do a strand.
7. DEC Strand: Lorrane has been in touch with DEC and it looks like this will not occur.
8. ADE Update: Lorie will be speaking to them next week and will ask if they will do an update including feedback on the mini-monitoring to see what the emphases will be for next year.
9. At this point, it looks like we still have 5 or 6 rooms available. Call for Papers will probably fill 2 or 3 of them.

Other Items Related to the Conference:
1. Lorie will be speaking to ADE next week to see if they will do the printing again.
2. Cost of lunch for families and friends of award winners: We give families 4 free tickets; other family members or friends wil pay $20 for their lunch. We will limit award winners to 6-10 students.
3. Vendors: We are not positive that Dave will do them again this year. Lorrane will email him to ask him to confirm.
4. There are concerns that registration may be down this year because of the economy. Lorrane suggested, and the board agreed, to fund 10 scholarships to the conference for teachers. Lorrane will create the scholarship application and put it online with the flyer and other advertising. Teachers will apply and have their principals sign to OK them being released to come to the conference. Kathy and Maria will select the scholarship winners. Mary will suggest to Chapter #588 that the chapter fund a scholarship or two as well.
This is also a strategy to recruit new membership.
5. Kathy will contact Black Canyon and have them fax a signed copy of the contract to Lorrane. Kathy will also ask them if they have updated their technology capabilities to allow internet connections in the breakout rooms and if they have a room with an interactive white board.
6. Conference price: $99 for members, $119 for nonmembers, $69 for students and board members who come to work. These prices are the same as last year.

The next meeting will also be an audio conference. It will be on Saturday, January 10, at 9:00 am. Lorrane will set it up again (thanks, Lorrane!) Lorrane gave information about signing up for Skype.com (basically, just go to the website and follow the instructions.)
The meeting was adjouned at 10:15 am.

Respectfully submitted,
Mary Brownell, Secretary
