ARIZONA COUNCIL FOR ADMINISTRATORS IN SPECIAL EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

PURPOSE:
Arizona CASE Scholarship was established as a means of encouraging individuals to choose careers in special education, especially in areas of need. The AZ CASE will assist in pursuing their post-graduate education with an award of up to $2,000.00.

ELIGIBILITY:
Recipients of scholarships must meet the following eligibility criteria:

1. Resident of Arizona;

2. Enrolled in, or accepted into a graduate program of study in special education or in a related field.

AZCASE Outstanding Leadership Award

The Arizona CASE Award for Outstanding Leadership will be given to the person who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in supporting special education and/or inclusive programming. This award is not limited to CASE members or to special education administrators. It is intended for an individual who has demonstrated leadership qualities and who has accomplished something of significance making a difference for students with disabilities.

Outstanding Chapter President

The nominee must:
1. Currently serve as a CEC member.
2. Have served as the President of an Arizona CEC chapter last year.
3. Have demonstrated professional development in his or her career.
4. Have promoted growth in membership in his or her CEC chapter.
5. Have displayed community leadership.

The Arizona CEC chapter's executive board members must write letters of nomination, which document fulfillment of the above requirements. Include the Arizona CEC chapter number and the nominators' contact information - names, addresses, and phone numbers.

The Distinguished Service to Exceptional Children Award

The nominee:

1. Must be an individual, group, organization, or business, which has shown a major concern or has performed in a significant manner for the advancement of exceptional individuals for Arizona.
2. Need not be a member of the Arizona Council for Exceptional Children (CEC).

Any person can nominate someone/group for this award. Please submit:

1. The nominee's name, addresses, and phone number.
2. The reason for nomination.
3. Letters of recommendation, which describe the nominee's professional contributions to individuals with disabilities.

The Samuel A. Kirk Special Education Teacher of the Year Award

The nominee:

1. Must be a current member of the Arizona Council for Exceptional Children.
2. Must not be a current officer or member of the awards committee.
3. Must have contributed significantly to the education of exceptional individuals through direct student contact in instruction or a training process.
4. Must have Arizona Teacher certification or be a related services specialist as recognized by the Arizona Department of Education.
5. Must submit vitae at a later date to the International CEC as part of the nomination process for the "Clarissa Hug Teacher of the Year" Award.

The "I Can Do It' Student Awards

This award is designed for Arizona students with disabilities. Each student must:

1. Currently receive special education services in Arizona.
2. Submit the completed Publicity Release Form, including a parent's signature.

Any individual can nominate a student. Please submit:

1. The student's information - name, address, grade, age, and parent's information - name, and phone number.
2. Reasons for the nomination.
3. The completed Publicity Release Form with a parent's signature.

Awardees will:

Innovation Pays Off . . . Apply for PIP Grant

What is PIP?
A $250 grant from Arizona CEC to Promote Innovative Practices.

Four $250 mini-grants are available to AZ-CEC members to promote innovative practices, which are designed to enhance the learning of exceptional students and demonstrate best educational practices. Funds may be used for supplies, instructional aids, equipment or services for an individual or group. Grants cannot be used to pay for anything that normally would be paid for by the district, agency and/or family.
