MEd in Special Education Consultation & Collaboration: Autism Emphasis

Arizona State University is pleased to offer a 33 hour online MEd in Special Education Consultation & Collaboration with an Autism Emphasis.

This new innovative program is designed for Individuals who:
 Are dedicated to providing services to children, youth and adults who fall under the ASD umbrella.
 Hold a bachelor’s degree or higher
 Meet ASU graduate admissions requirements
 Are serious in pursuing a high quality rigorous graduate program focusing on autism

Scholarships to earn Master's Degree in Special Education

The Institute for Human Development at Northern Arizona University was the recipient of an Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) Grant to educate 28 scholars through the Master’s of Education Special Education in Low Incidence Disabilities with Certification and the Graduate Certificate in Assistive Technology. 14 of these scholars will be accepted into the program for Fall 2009.

Nationa "Yes I Can" Winner from Arizona!

We are proud to announce that Geraldine Miranda, a senior at Washington High School in Phoenix (Glendale Union High School District)is a winner in the area of Academics. Geraldine was nominated by her Physical Therapist, Amy McVickers, and is now working with Amy and the district Transition Specialist Erin Golden to plan her visit to the natioanl conference in Seattle in April.
So if you are in Seattle at the conference please try to attend the "Yes I Can" awards ceremony on Friday afternoon, and join in celebrating the accomplishments of Geraldine and all the state winners.

Congratulations to Susan Greer, AZDEC Mini-Grant Recipient

Congratulations to Susan Greer, ASDB Early Childhood and Family Education Program. Susan is the first recipient of an AZ DEC mini-grant for her project called: Pathways to Independence. Susan's grant money will be applied to a parent workshop to be held in March, 2009 for families of children (birth-7) with visual impairments.

AZ DEC members can now apply for one of 3 mini-grants still available for the spring. The deadline is March 2, 2009. DEC members who are caregivers, teachers, related services personnel, administrators, home visitors.... Any DEC member who works with young children and needs some extra money for an educational project.

If you would like to apply, please follow this link. You will find a fact sheet, instructions for applying, and a sample of the scoring system. Perhaps your project will be funded!

Do you know that special student who excels despite their disability?

AZCEC wants to recognize those students who exhibit the "I CAN DO IT!" attitude by doing their best in academics, art, athletics, community service, employment, self-advocacy, technology or independent life skills.

Nominate those special students for the 2009 "I CAN DO IT!" student award. Download the nomination form and submit by February 6, 2009.

Students will be selected on the basis of merit and recognized at the 2009 AZCEC/CASE Annual Conference on March 6, 2009.

Innovation Pays Off . . . Apply for PIP Grant

What is PIP?
A $250 grant from Arizona CEC to Promote Innovative Practices.

Four $250 mini-grants are available to AZ-CEC members to promote innovative practices, which are designed to enhance the learning of exceptional students and demonstrate best educational practices. Funds may be used for supplies, instructional aids, equipment or services for an individual or group. Grants cannot be used to pay for anything that normally would be paid for by the district, agency and/or family.
