2021/2022 AZCEC President's Message

August 4, 2021

Dear Arizona CEC Members,

It is my most sincere hope that you, your family, and your loved ones are well.

This pandemic has presented so many complex challenges that continue to shape our professional and personal lives.  Through these disconcerting times we have remained resolute in our commitment fight injustice and to provide high quality services to our exceptional learners. Your persistent dedication has meant so very much to our students and their families and demonstrates true professionalism.  THANK YOU!!

I am very grateful to the AZCEC, AZCASE, AZCCBD, East Valley Chapter, and ASU Student Chapter Board Members for their dedication and support this past year. This amazing group who volunteered their time and efforts in service to our AZCEC community has worked tirelessly to support the outreach, book studies, webinars, and conferences designed to keep you informed of legislative issues and actions, teaching and learning strategies, issues in the field, and updates.  Heartfelt appreciation goes to each of you; I am thankful to serve on this board with you.

Our accomplishments were many:  record attendance at our virtual Annual Conference, collaboration with legislators and other professional associations that resulted in $55 million in new funding for special education students.  We also initiated quarterly partner meetings to begin developing a common understanding and dialogue of the needs of our exceptional learners as each organization engages in advocacy.

2021-2022 will be another terrific year and we look forward to reaching more teachers and professionals in the rural areas of the State.  Thank you, again, for your investment of time, talent, energy, and professionalism in our most vulnerable population.  Your work brightens the future for all of us.  Have a wonderful, safe, and healthy year!

Sincerely,

Kimberly Peaslee, M.Ed.
